Daylily Delights

In that past few weeks, I have showed just a couple of the vibrant daylilies that are blooming in the front garden.

This week I thought I'd show you some more of the varieties I have:

Unfortunately, they will have to remain nameless.  When I planted them, I carefully drew a plan of the border and noted which variety was planted where.  Alas, the diagram is nowhere to be found, and believe me I have torn my desk apart looking for it!

But that's okay -- name, or no name, the end result is the same -- beauty and vibrant color scattered among the green shrubs in the front border, to greet me when I get home from work.

True to their name, daylily blooms only last a day or so, but there are plenty of new buds waiting to open.

I've tried identifying these with the help of various internet sites, but there are so many varieties, many with subtle differences, I just gave up!

Unfortunately, with tens of thousands of registered daylilies, it's hard to identify. The saving grace is that there are certain cultivars that are most often sold. Did you buy these in a garden center, from a grower/hybridizer or just in a store in a bag?
Would you recognize the name if you heard it?

The first one looks like Desperado or maybe it is El Desperado. I bought one. It died.

The third one looks kind of like Strawberry Candy, which looks different in different lights in different gardens.

The 4th one is a spider, which narrows the guesses.

Sometimes knowing more details helps find the name. Is the last yellow one a big daylily or small? Is it dormant or evergreen or semi? Does it rebloom? That might help decide if it is more similar to Stella D'oro or Mary's Gold or some of their look alikes.

I hope you find your paper. Once in hand, you can scan it and put it on your blog where you can always find it.

I forgot to say how pretty they are.

Hi NellJean -- aha! Yes, the first one *is* El Desperado. I remember that name, but had forgotten about it. It was purchased separately from the rest, which were purchased online.

All I know about the yellow one is that it isn't Stella D'Oro, lol.

They are blooming already! We are not there yet.

The name is not important, the eye is only sensitive to color and shape and these gorgeous lilies excel in those.

They are very pretty Jayne.

Thank you Maia.

Jayne, your daylilies are beautiful. I love the color of the 2nd and 3rd ones. Several of mine are pass-a-long plants whose names I will probably never know but I love them anyway. They are like the dancers in the garden with the way they sway on their stalks in the wind.

I love all of your day lilies Jayne. They are so pretty. I especially like the 3rd peachy one. I planted 5 stellas last year and they all have buds now. I can't wait till they open.

Your daylilies are very pretty. Many of mine were rescued from a place that was going to have the house taken down. I lost most of the tags to the ones I've purchased. I do remember 'Wally', though, because I fell in love with it on the ivillage garden cottage gardens site, and found a seller to get it from.

I wish I remembered things better, but the daylilies are just as lovely whether we know their names or not.

Thanks for your comment on my new background photo.
